Transit Oriented Development is the exciting fast growing trend in creating vibrant, livable, sustainable communities. Also known as TOD, it's the creation of compact, walkable, pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use communities centered around high quality train systems. This makes it possible to live a lower-stress life without complete dependence on a car for mobility and survival.1
TODs are not only beneficial for the environment, but are huge economy boosters for communities. States like Colorado, Virginia, California, Oregon are seeing the value of investing in new alternative transportation infrastructure and developing around them in their busy cities.
But, how in a mixed environment of rural, suburban and urban communities like Chester County or other surrounding counties, like Montgomery and Delaware, does one accomplish this new style of living? In TMACC's upcoming signature event, a group of experienced developers and planners are coming together to help answer this question and give community leaders the knowledge to make their towns a better environment for alternative travel.
